INTRODUCTION Biofeedback is a valuable element in the toolkit of the physiotherapist working in pelvic health. As the pelvic floor muscles are relatively hidden from the patient’s view, muscle identification can be challenging, impeding the training for contraction and relaxation. Biofeedback can greatly assist in muscle identification, and, used in conjunction with other elements in the therap...

    Hi John, Thank you for this session. I have procomp2. But I am not able to get a good EEG signal at all. In fact it is all high amplitude artifacts, even when impedance is 2-3. I wonder if this is EEG-Z sensor problem or any cable problems. How can I check? the left panel lights up as 'EMG activity' ? due to high amplitude. but there are no muscle movements. The signal is off the chart and does not show values of brainwaves on the left panel.

    Hi John, how are you? I'm looking to your video where you use a ProComp2 to monitor EEG and I have a question, why did you not use the A chennel with just the leads and used an EEG-Z sensor instead?

    • @ThoughtTechnologyLtd
      @ThoughtTechnologyLtd Рік тому

      Great question Ivo. There is actually an EEG sensor built directly into channel A of the ProComp2 encoder, so there is no need to plug an EEG-Z sensor into it. We only use the EEG-Z sensor in channel B since there is no EEG sensor built in there.

    How could I determine my own resonance frequency, or coherence pace? Would I need something to measure my breathing, or could I correlate my breathing with HRV readings?

    • @ThoughtTechnologyLtd
      @ThoughtTechnologyLtd Рік тому

      You would need a device to measure your heart rate variability, as well as a breath pacer that will take you from 7.0 to 4.5 breaths/min in incremental steps. A respiration gauge would also provide better data, but it's not required.

    Binaural beats meditation increased my HRV quite a bit over time. I did primarily Delta brainwaves entrainment using MindGlow app. It's an app I developed. You can use progressively stronger (i.e. amplitude) Delta by changing levels in the app. This keeps inducing your brain to produce more Delta.

    Are there any possibilities for HRV variability biofeedback for application to atrial fibrillation?

    • @ThoughtTechnologyLtd
      @ThoughtTechnologyLtd Рік тому

      Hi David, Atrial fibrillation is associated with decreased HRV and studies have shown its relation to vagal tone and autonomic dysfunction. If low HRV is associated with increased risk of cardiovascular events, one of which is AF, then increasing HRV would decrease that risk. There have not been many studies on HRV biofeedback as an intervention for those already with AF, but some preliminary work showed promise. That being said, it was a small sample size with only ~30% showing improvement.

    • @exxzxxe

      @@ThoughtTechnologyLtd Thank you for your prompt and well stated answer. I will study this a bit more and follow your channel. In the past 40 years I have had 4-5 instances of SVT (supra-ventricular tachycardia). I became capable of sensing an impending SVT episode and stop it by breathing and "mentally bearing down"- concentration. Last week, I had an AFIB attack, which "sneaked up on me." I would hypothesize that training with HRV biofeedback has promise, give my success with SVT prevention. I plan to pursue this, given how "nasty" blood thinners are. I m now on pradaxa.

    I personally think that mindful breathing whilst running is very critical. It keeps the HR low and also causes the body to stabilise. The issue is for a runner to become efficient they need a very consistent rhythm. This stems from a good metronome which is the breathing and heart. Would like to hear the presenters views on this in other talks as this is a fascinating subject. HRV has so much potential.
